Obituary of Michael Axer

Michael Axer was the son of Elizabeth and George Axer of Heidelberg Township in York County, Pennsylvania. How this branch of the Axers fits into the family tree, we're unsure, but fit they must, since George and Michael are both "family names" and George was a weaver, which is a "family occupation" since the days in Germany! George's second child, that we know of, was a daughter whom he named Catharine, which is also a name that is prevalent in this family.

Michael is found on the tax rolls as a Cooper between 1842 and 1848. He is listed right after his father, George. Michael is buried between his mother and sister in Bair's Meeting House Cemetery in Heidelberg Township. A short mention of his death appeared in the Hanover Spectator, Friday morning, March 9, 1849 and reads as follows:

Died:

On Sunday morning last, in Heidelberg tp in this county, after a lingering illness, Mr. Michael Axer, aged 26 and 11 months.
