Obituary of Marian Ford Breneman

The Breneman family and the Auxer family are related through common ancestors, Elizabeth Auxer and Philip Kleiss. My family descends through their daughter, Catharine, who married Michael Auxer, Jr. and the Brenemans descend through their daughter Elizabeth, who married Abraham Neff Breneman. Marian Ford was married to Philip Kleiss Brenaman. Her obituary appeared in the Lancaster New Era on Thursday, February 21, 1895, as follows:

OBITUARY

Death of Mrs. Marian Breneman, One of the Oldest Residents of the City.

A venerable and well-known lady passed to rest about half-past nine o'clock on Wednesday evening, Mrs. Marian Breneman, widow of Philip K. Breneman. Her death was quite unexpected and was the result of a recently contracted cold, which developed into congestion of the lungs. Her advanced age was against her recovery from the first, nature being unable to second the efforts made to assist her. Her end came peacefully and a most admirable character ended with her life. It was a singular coincidence that death came one the day on which she completed the eighty-seventh year of her age, she having been born in Lancaster on February 21, 1808. She was a remarkable woman in many aspects, her faculties remaining unimpaired to the last. She evinced a lively interest in all of the live topics of the day and kept up a close connection with her church, the Reformed. She was one of the charter members of St. Paul's Reformed Church, and was a member whose bright Christian character served well as an example to others. The deceased was the daughter of Geo. K. Ford, who has been dead half a century. He was a clockmaker, and a noted one in his day, and a number of pieces of his handiwork are still valued possessions of some of our citizens. Her husband, Philip K. Breneman, whose death occurred twenty-five years ago, was a well-known dry goods merchant of our city, his place of business being the property which has been Mrs. Breneman's home for fully sixty years, No. 18 East King street. Mrs. Breneman was the granddaughter of a Revolutionary patriot, Major Peter Ford, and of Charles Hall, Esq., a member of the Committee of Safety here during the war for independence. On her mother's side she was descended form Abram Le Roy, a French Swiss, who came to Lancaster with his family in the early part of the last century.
Mrs. Breneman's surving children are Charles A., clerk in the Farmers' National Bank; Frank H., President of the Lancaster County National Bank, and Edward, of Dayton, Ohio. The funeral will take place at two o'clock on Saturday afternoon form the late residence of the deceased.
