John Spurrier carried his grandmother's maiden name. His grandparents were Adam J and Elizabeth Spurrier Auxer, and his parents were Henry F. and Mary Diehl Auxer. John lived a few short months. His life was cut short before he was even a year old. A short mention of this babe's passing appeared in the The Lancaster Intelligencer on 3 March 1868 and reads as follows:DEATHS AUXER - On the 2d inst., in this city, John S., son of Henry F. and Mary Auxer, aged 9 months, 2 weeks and 2 days.
The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the residence of the parents, in West Orange street, between Mulberry and Charlotte on tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 3 o'clock without further notice.
