The death of this child affected my great-great grandmother so deeply, that the grief was something she never quite recovered from and her death was later attributed to this event. He was the only son that Jeremiah Mark and Mary Jane Carvell had. He was also their third child that did not make it thru infancy. My great-grandmother was their only child that lived a full life. James died when they were pastoring in Altoona, Pennsylvania. This small notice of his death appeared in The Church Advocate, a publication of The Church of God, on September 22, 1875:
CARVELL. In Altoona, Pa., September 3d, 1875, James Edgar, only son of
Elder J.M. and Sister Mary J.Z. Carvell, aged 1 year, 4 months and 8 days.
