This plot is in Woodward Hill Cemetery, smack in the middle of Lancaster city, Pennsylvania. James Buchanan is buried in this cemetery ~ but he is at the top of the hill and his plot is in immaculate condition. This plot is at the back of the cemetery and numbers among the worst kept I have ever seen! It is sad, indeed! There are eight members of the same family buried in this plot.

Jacob Auxer was the brother of my g-g-g-g-grandfather. His headstone has been knocked off of it's stand and I had to scrape mud off of it, pull weeds and then try to read what it said!. . . . .and his is not the worst in this plot!

Jacob's headstone is hard to read and this is what I can read:

Born in Elizabethtown
Lanc. Co June can't read the rest of the line
Died at Lancaster
Sept XXIX can't read the rest of the line
~ or even the inscription for that matter!

Cemetery records show (and I'm positive they are wrong)

Date of Birth 6-17-1877
Date of Death Sept 1929

Since his father died in 1820, and his first child was born in 1826, this would have been a virtual impossibility! If the condition of the gravesites are any indication of the care taken with the records, well. . . . . . .
