Obituary of George Ford Breneman

The Breneman family and the Auxer family are related through common ancestors, Elizabeth Auxer and Philip Kleiss. My family descends through their daughter, Catharine, who married Michael Auxer, Jr. and the Brenemans descend through their daughter Elizabeth, who married Abraham Neff Breneman. George F. was the son of Marian Ford and Philip Kleiss Breneman. His obituary appeared in the Lancaster Daily Intelligencer on Saturday evening, December 27, 1873 as follows:

DEATH OF GEORGE F. BRENEMAN, Esq. - The many friends of George F. Breneman, Esq., will regret to lealrn that he died at his residence in this city, this forenoon. He had been in delicate health for some time past, but until a few days ago his friends had hopes of his recovery. Mr. Breneman was a man of culture and scholarly tastes; a lawyer of fair ability, an accomplished musician, and a warm friend of the cause of education. For several years past he has been one of the most active members of the School Board, occupying a prominent position on some of the most important committees. He was for some years a Solicitor of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, and was at the time of his death Solicitor of the Lancaster County Bank. He was an active politician of the Republican school, and frequently held positions in the conventions and committees of his party. For many hears past he has occupied the position of judge of elections in the Third Ward. he possessed many social virtues and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.
The immediate cause of his death is said to have been ossification of the heart.

BRENEMAN - On Dec 26th, George F. Breneman, Esq., in the 42st year of his age.
The funeral will take place on Monday, the 29th inst., at 2 o'clock P.M., from his mother's residence, No. 18 East King street. Interment at Lancaster Cemetery.
