Edwin S. Arnold was my great-grandmother's second cousin. Carrie Carvell was married to Edwin Niess and lived in Washington D.C., Edwin Arnold also lived in Washington D.C. His grandmother, Elizabeth Carvell Arnold and Carrie's grandfather, Joseph Britton Carvell were siblings. From later newspaper articles in the Washington Post I found out that the two famililes did know each other, as Carrie's husband was the attorney of record, handling the Edwin Arnold's estate matters after his death. Mr. Arnold's obituary appeared in the Washington Post on June 1, 1923, as follows:
EDWIN S. ARNOLD Was for 38 Years Postoffice Department Employe. (sic)
Funeral services for Edwin S. Arnold, for 38 years an employe(sic) of the Postoffice Department, who died at his residence, 24 Second street northeast, yesterday morning after a brief illness, will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal church tomorrow morning. Burial will be in Glenwood cemetery. Mr. Arnold was 66 years old at his death. He was born in Port Treverton, Pa., where for some time he served as editor of the Keystone Reveille. He was a member of the Washington Board of Trade, the Macabees and the Pennsylvania Historical society and was one of the founders of the Pennsylvania State society in Washington. He leaves a wife, a daughter, Rosemary Arnold, and a son, James Riehl Arnold.
