Donald A. Auxer's father, Frank A. Auxer, Jr., and my great-grandfather, Edwin A. Niess, were second cousins. The Auxers lived on one side of the Susquehanna; the Niess' on the other. Donald was born in Camp Hill and died in Ohio. This copy of his obituary appeared in The Crescent-News, Defiance, Ohio, on Wednesday, February 7, 2001:
DONALD A. AUXER
BRYAN - Donald A. Auxer, 68, rural Bryan, died Tuesday morning at a friend's home in Evansport.
He was born July 18, 1932, in Camp Hill, Pa., the son of Frank and Gladys (Gettel) Auxer. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Dinner Bell Foods, Defiance.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Grisier Funeral Home, Stryker, with Rev. Ernest Belella officiating. Burial will be in Evansport Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
