John Auxer was the brother of Michael Auxer of Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Michael was my 5th great grandfather. John was the Justice of Peace, Treasurer and numerous other positions in Marietta before his death. He is buried in the Marietta Cemetery next to his wife and two of his children. This short mention of his death was found in The Weekly Patriot from Harrisburg, dated 11 March 1869:STATE NEWS John Auxer, an alderman in the borough of Marietta, aged 72 years, died suddenly of heart disease on the 3d inst.
John was the father of four daughters and one son. His only son and youngest daughter are buried next to him in Marietta. His next youngest daughter was Emmaline. She married Harry Linville Hendrickson and had one son who died in infancy. Mention of her death was found in The Philadelphia Inquirer on 8 September 1917. Her age in the obituary does not correspond with two other ages I have found for her, and the fact that she died in a non-existent daughter's home is also in error. She, in all probability, died in her sister's home, since she spent the later years of her life living there.
STATE NEWS IN SHORT METER Marietta - Mrs. Emma Hendrickson, 76 years old, daughter of the late Squire Auxer, a pioneer of Marietta, died from infirmities of age at the home of her daughter in Brooklyn yesterday. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.
