The first one on this page is for Adam James Auxer, my great-great-grandfather's nephew! It appeared in the Lancster Daily Intelligencer, on Monday, 19 March 1928:

ADAM AUXER, 85, LOCAL CONTRACTOR, DIES

Adam Auxer, a former member of select and common council, and a well-known contractor, died Sunday morning at 3 o'clock in his home, 528 East Chestnut street, of infirmities of age. He was 85 years old, a son of the late Adam J. and Elizabeth Spurrier Auxer, and was born in Philadelphia.

Mr. Auxer built the three-story rear building which houses the Intelligencer's mechanical department. The building was complted about 1913.

Mr. Auxer was a life-long member of the First Methodist church, and was one of its oldest members.

For several years he was president of the Master Buildrer Association and at the time of his death was treasurer of Conestoga Council. No. 8, O.U.A.M., which office he held for more than thirty years.

The following children survive William H. and Elizabeth E., both at home; Frank A., Camp Hill, and Edwin J., Wheatland avenue, this city. Six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held from the late home 528 East Chestnut street, Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock with private burial in the Lancaster Cemetery.

MRS. ALICE L. AUXER, Obituary

From The Lancaster Daily Intelligencer, Friday, Feb. 27, 1920:

Mrs. Alice L. Auxer, wife of William H. Auxer, and a daughter of the late James T. Roselle, died yesterday afternoon at her home, No. 540 East Chestnut stret, from a complication of diseases after a lingering illness. Deceased was a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal church. Her husband survives. The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the late home. Private interment will be made at Lancaster cemetery.

This obituary for Martha Wolf Auxer appeared in the Lancaster Daily Intelligencer on Friday, May 24, 1889.

Deaths.

Auxer - Died at Mountville, on Thursday, May 23, at 3 1/2 p.m., Mattie, wife of Samuel Auxer, aged 57 years, 2 months and 15 days. The relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the residence of her son-in-law, John Ferguson, on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services in the U.B. church, Mountville.

From the Lancaster Intelligencer, Friday evening, March 26, 1926:

HENRY F. AUXER

Henry F. Auxer, a retired tinsmith, died yesterday afternoon at 12:35 o'clock at the home of his son-in-law, John F. Burkhart, 426 East Chestnut street, of complications after an illness of six weeks. He was 86 years old and was a member of Monterey and Rigelby Encampment orders of Odd Fellows. He is survived by a son, Charles F., a daughter, Mrs. John F. Burkhart, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Adam, all of this city. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the late home and private burial will be in Lancaster cemetery.

MARY GRACE AUXER, Obituary

From The Lancaster Daily Intelligencer, Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1885:
DEATHS
AUXER-On the 12th inst., in this city, Mary Grace, infant daughter of Henry A. and Elizabeth Auxer, aged 3 months and 2 days.
The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the residence of the grandparents, No. 38 East James street, on tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at 4 o'clock.

ELIZABETH SPURRIER AUXER, Obituary

From Lancaster Daily Intelligencer, Saturday, May 14, 1881:
DEATHS
AUXER- In this city on the 13th inst., Mrs. Elizabeth Auxer, in the 72d year of her age.
Her relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, fromthe reisence of her brother, John Spurrier, No. 326 East Orange street, on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment in Lancaster cemetery.

Death of an Aged Lady

On Friday, at her residence, No. 326 East Orange street, Mrs. Elizabeth Auxer passed away, aged about seventy-one years, her death being caused by hemorrhage of the lungs. Deceased was the mother of Harry F. and Adam J. Auxer, both wellknow (sic) citizens of Lancaster, and sister of Mr. George Spurrier, merchant tailer. She was a most excellent woman, esteemed by all who knew her, and her demise will cast a gloom over a large circle of relatives and friends. Deceased was born in Bristol, England, and came to this country in 1814. She had been a widow for many years and made her home with her brother, Mr. John Spurrier.

CLARA AUXER, obituary

From Lancaster Intelligencer, Monday evening, Jan. 27, 1868:

DEATHS
AXER- On the 26th inst, in this city, Clara, only daughter of the late Jacob Axer, deceased, aged 10 years and 10 months.
The friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the residence of her mother, North Water street, near Lemon, on Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, without further notice.

MARY ZENTMEYER AUXER, obituary

From The Lancaster Daily Intelligencer, Tuesday, June 2, 1896:

Mrs. Mary Auxer Dead.

Mrs. Mary Auxer, wife of Henry Auxer died on Monday evening at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Salinda Gochenour, No. 563 South Prince street. She was 78 years old and death resulted f rom infirmaties incident to old age. She was a native of Lancaster county and lived at Willow Street until a few years ago when she moved to this city. Her surviving children are: Linneaus Auxer, Annie, wife of Jacob Eshbach, Salinda, wife of Adam Gochenour, and Phares Auxer. Her funeral will take place on Friday afternoon, with services at the New Danville Mennonite church.

From the Lancaster New Era, September 29, 1901, page 1:

Death of Henry Auxer

Henry Auxer, a retired farmer, died on Saturday evening at the home of his son-in-law, Jacob F. Eschbach, No. 529 North Mary street, from the effects of a paralytic attack in his seventy-seventh year. He was born near Millersville, and lived in that neighborhood, farming, until seven years ago when he came to this city. He was a member of the Old Mennonite Church. His wife is dead, but three children survive, all of Lancaster, Mrs. Eschbach, Mrs. Salinda Gochenour and Phares.

The next day, Monday, September 30, 1901, The Lancaster Daily Intelligencer printed the following account of his death:

Henry Auxer Dead.

Henry Auxer died on Saturday night at 10 o'clock at the home of his son-in-law, Jacob F. Eshbach, at No. 520 North Mary street. Seven months ago he had a stroke of paralysis from which he never fully recovered and he was taken with another on Saturday evening. He was also troubled with dropsy. The deceased was 77 years of age and was born in Millersville, where he lived up to about seven years ago when he moved to Lancaster. His children are Mrs. Annie Eshbach, wife of Jacob F. Eshbach; Mrs. Salinda Gochenour, and Phares, of this city. He was a member of the Old Mennonite church. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, at 12:30 from the house and services will be held at New Danville at 2:30.

PHARES AUXER, obituary

From The Daily Intelligencer Journal, Monday, July 31, 1944:

PHARES AUXER

Phares Auxer, eighty-five, 412 New Holland Ave., died at 8:10 p.m., Saturday at his home after a month's illness. He was born in Providence Twp., a son of the late Henry and Mary Sentmyer Auxer. His wife, the former Susan Witmyer, is deceased 22 years. He was a member of the Emanuel Lodge, No. 242, IOOF. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Salinda Gochenauer, Harrisburg.


CATHARINE AUXER McGINNIS

The obituary for Catharine Auxer McGinnis appeared on Wednesday, May 9, 1888, in The Lancaster Daily Intelligencer.

Death of Mrs. Catharine McGinnis.

Mrs. Catharine McGinnis, widow of the late Andrew McGinnis, died on Tuesday, aged 71 years. Her husband was killed on the Pennsylvania railroad a few years ago and the shock received by his death undermined her health. She leaves a number of children. One of her sons is George McGinnis, a blacksmith employed at the Harrisburg car works, and a second son is John McGinnis, a cigarmaker.
