Photographs from
Newville, Harrisburg,Philadelphia and Chambersburg
All of the pictures on this page were found in a photograph album belonging to my great-grandmother's sister, Rosa Gantt Hamilton. If you know who these people are, and they are in your family line, please contact me. I'd be delighted to share with you!

This is the only one in the album from Newville, Pa. It was photographed by S.B. Smith in Newville.
My great-greatgrandfather pastored in a Church of God in Newville in 1868 ~ I know since my great-grandmother was born there. He was also Past Master of Big Spring Masonic Lodge in 1885, so that picture may have been taken between 1868 and 1885!
I have no idea where this picture was taken, however, it was special to Rosa since the little bouquet in her hair was handpainted on!.

There are at least two stars on this man's shoulders ~ possibly three from the placement of the stars. This picture was from D.C. Burnite & Co., in Harrisburg, PA, 110 Market Street. Also on the back is the notation that Duplicated Copies can be had at any time by sending Name and No. ......
I'd try for duplicates, but nobody filled in the number, and I have no idea of his name!
This is just one of the photographs from Philadelphia. My great-grandfather pastored in the Germantown Church of God in 1879, and possibly several years before and after that date. My great-grandmother died in that year while in Philadelphia.
The back of this picture says
A. KIENTZLE.
ARTIST,
Photograph Gallery, 733 Girard Ave.
PHILADELPHIA
This is the only picture from Chambersburg. I cannot figure how it fits in, since, to my knowledge, my great-grandfather never lived there. I do know that my father had a cousin, Rush Hafer, from that area, in the 1930's, but I haven't figured out how Rush was my father's cousin, either. This may be from that family!
The back of this picture says
H. Bishop,

This picture is also from Philadelphia, and taken just down the street from the previous Philadelphia one!
The notation on the back of the picture says

Snyder V. Walton,
225 West Girard Avenue,
Philadelphia, PA. Any idea of who these people are?
This picture is also from Philadelphia, and I can't tell if his cheeks were colored a little rosier color, or if this is just a mark on the picture ~ on each of his cheeks!
The notation on the back of the picture says
