The many friends of Mrs. L.B. Carvell will be shocked and grieved to learn of her unexpected illness and death which occured Wednesday morning of this week. Coming as it did, has left the entire community in sadness and the deepest sympathy goes out to the husband and the sons and daughters.
Coming home from his work at the court house Monday afternoon, Mr. Carvell found his wife lying on the floor of their home unconscious, having sufered a paralytic stroke. From this condition she never recovered, although everything was done for her that could be done. The next afternoon she was removed to o the Wilson Hospital where she could be given better care. Wednesday morning she passed away leaving to the husband and children the memory of a good wife and a loving mother.
Martha Meiser Carvell was born in Snyder County, Pennsylvania, May 19, 1862 and at the time of her death was 62 years, 11 months and 12 days old. In March, 1879, she was united in marriage to L.B. Carvell and a few years later, in 1885, the family moved to South Dakota, where they lived until 1906. That year, Mr. and Mrs. Carvell filed on a homestead near Blackwater, where they lived until moving to Washburn a year or more ago.
A good Christian woman all her life, Mrs. Carvell was a member of the Congregational Church and her thoughts were always for her loved ones and what she could do to make them happy. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors and her husband stated she intended applying for memership in the Eastern Star. During her short residence in Washburn, she made many friends who will miss her.
Those who will miss her most are her husband and the eight children, one child having died in infancy. The members of the family are all residents of this section and all are here to pay their last fond tribute of love. They are: Thomas F., of Washburn; Edith C. Berger, of Benedict; Agnes F. Morton, of Max; Alfred M., of Minot; Edward B., of Zap; Clayton M., of Washburn; Florence B. Leinhart, of Ruso, and Myrtle M. Doepke, of Washburn.
