Joseph Britton is buried in the old part of Grubbs Churchyard, Chapman Township, Snyder County, Pennsylvania. His wife, Hannah, is supposedly buried there, also, however, there is not marked grave. The grave next to Joseph's is unmarked, and this could be Hannah's. Their daughter Mary and her husband, William Carwell/Carvell are buried in the row immediately in front of theirs. The headstone looks newer than some of the surrounding ones, including his daughter's and son-in-law's, so I am assuming it has been replaced. Another reason for the assumption, are the DAR papers I have in my possession completed by my grandmother, Nellie Viola Niess Sherman, but never turned in. In those papers she states that his headstone says "He was a Revolutionary Soldier. Mr. Jos. Britton applied for liberty to raise a Co. of minute men; which was granted" October 9, 1775 American Archives - 4th series Vol 4- p-1729." It no longer reads as that.
Joseph Britton's headstone reads:
