Emanuel Bowers was married to Catharine Axer, daughter of Elizabeth and George Axer of Heidelberg Township, York County, Pennsylvania. Catharine died in 1886 and is buried in a row with her mother and brother, Michael. Emanuel is buried directly opposite Catharine. They are all buried in Bair's Meeting House Cemetery in Heidelberg Township. An obituary appeared in the Hanover Herald, Saturday, May 15, 1897and reads as follows:Death of Emanuel Bowers Emanuel Bowers died at the home of his son, Jacob Bowers, in Penn Township, near Krentler's schoolhouse, on Thursday about 9 a.m., of asthma, to which he had long been subject. His age was 69 years. Mr. Bowers was a carpener (sic) by trade, and had lived in this community all of his life. He served in the Union army in the civil war. His wife preceded him to the other world about 10 years ago. Two sons, George Bowers, of Orchard Street, this place, and Jacob Bowers, of Penn Township, survive him.
