Carrie Violet Carvell

Carrie Violet Hornberger married John Henry Carvell, April 16, 1927. They are both buried in the Richfield Union Cemetery, and a picture of their headstone is on my Headstone page. Her obituary lists her name as "Carrie Violet", her headstone as "Violet Carrie".

The following is one of her obituaries. It was obtained from the Juniata Historical Society, and I have no idea as to the name of the paper, or the date published.

Carrie Violet Carvell, 85, of Richfield and a resident of Zendt's Nursing Home, Richfield, died Sunday, May 12, 1991, at Lewistown Hospital.
Born Feb. 9, 1905, in Richfield RD1, West Perry Township, Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Jennie (Graybill) Hornberger. Her husband, John Henry Carvell, died in 1980.
Surviving are: a daughter, Norma Colyer of McAlisterville RD1; brothers and sisters, Iva Brown of Richfield, Marie House, Ferne Snyder, Faye Smith, all of Richfield RD, Merrill and Herbert Hornberger borth of Richfield RD; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Graybill in 1987; a brother, John Hornberger; a sister, Irma Hart; a half-brother, Dewey Hornberger; a half-sister, Ella Renninger.
She was educated at Stahl's School, Richfield RD1.
Mrs. Carvell was employed at L. Shellenberger & Sons Manufacturing Company, Richfield, retiring in 1946. She also assisted her late husband in the photography business.
She was a member of the Richfield United Methodist Church, the Queen Esther Class of the Sunday School, and the Senior Citizen Center, Richfield.
Services were held at the Richfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Almon D. Baird officiating. Interment will be in the Richfield Union Cemetery.

RICHFIELD Carrie Violet Carvell, 85, of Zendt's Nursing Home died Sunday in Lewistown Hospital. She was retired from L. Shellenberger & Sons Manufacturing Co.; assisted her late husband in the photography business; and was a member of Richfield United Methodist Church, its Queen Esther Sunday Class, and the Senior Citizens Center of Richfield. She was the widow of John Henry Carvell. Surviving are a daughter, Norma Colyer of McAlisterville RD 1; two brothers, Merrill and Herbert Hornberger, both of Richfield RD; four sisters, Iva Brown of Richfield, and Marie House, Ferne Snyder and Faye Smith, all of Richfield RD; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in her church. Burial will be in Richfield Union Cemetery. Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills.
