Charles Carvell was the youngest of ten children born to Joseph Britton and Mary Hyle Carvell. In the family Bible, he does not have either a middle name or a middle initial. His obituary, however, shows a middle name of "Eden".

Charles Carvell, Old Resident, Buried Sunday
Charles Eden Carvell was born to Joseph and Mary Hile Carvell on April 13, 1866, in Greenwood Township, Perry County, Penna. At the age of ten his parents moved to Thompsontown where he spent his school days and early life.In 1888 he came to Michigan. From this time the remainder of his life was spent either in Vicksburg or what is known as the Mint District. On February 25, 1892, he was united in marriage to Francis Elizabeth Hill and to this union was born these children, Clair, Mary and Ray. She preceded him in death on October 26, 1934.
It was in the Mint district that he was superintendent and class leader of the Sunday School for over 25 years. His life and influence was an inspiration to the young people of the community. He also served several years as Director of that school.
He was always active in community affairs and served as Highway Commissioner and Treasurer of Park Township. For 3 terms he served as a member of the Vicksburg Village Council.
He was a member of the Methodist Church for over 50 years. His life was spent in farming, clerking in the stores and as a merchant. He made many friends while in business by his friendliness and square dealing.
In March, 1937, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Minnie Bingham who passed away in August, 1942.
Due to ill health, he sold his grocery business in 1942 to his son, Ray. Since then he has lived a retired life.
He leaves to mourn his loss the three children, two step-children, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Vicksburg, Sunday, March 30, at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. George Stanford officiating. Burial was made in Vicksburg Cemetery arranged by Critz funeral home.
