Benjamin J. Carvell

Benjamin Carvell was the fifth child of Joseph Britton and Mary Hyle Carvell. He died in 1920. His obituary uses the middle initial of "J", although it is not recorded in the family Bible as part of his name.

The following is his obituary as printed in the Juniata Tribune, Thursday, November 4, 1920, Mifflintown, Pennsylvania:

Benjamin J. Carvell, of Walker Township, died in the Polyclinic Hospital, Friday, October 29th, at the age of 64 years; his death was due to blood poisoning caused by injuries received to two of his fingers of his right hand which were caught in the machinery while threshing at J.O. Heimbaugh's last summer.

Besides his wife, nee Swanger, he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Jerome Portzline, Walker Township; Mrs. G.G. Nearhood, Walker Township; and Mrs. Briggs of Tyrone; also seven brothers and two sisters.

He was a member of Locust Run Evangelical Church and was a retired farmer. Funeral services were held from his late home Monday conducted by Rev. I.K. Baker of Mexico.
