History books in Catawba County, NC tell about an argument between Conrad Weaver, who married Johannes' daughter Elizabeth, about the baptism of Saloma Weaver (Johannes's granddaughter). Johannes was one of several men who gave land for Zion Lutheran  Church, one of the first churches in the fledgling community. It would not be finished before time for Saloma to be finished so Conrad, the father, intended for her baptism to take place at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, nearby. Johannes was very upset, as he wanted his granddaughter baptized at Zion, which was not finished until the fall of 1791. Conrad said that was too long to wait so the baptism occurred at St. Paul's.

Mrs. Eaker says the argument must have been "of no small matter" to be recounted in official records!

Letter from Rosemary BuShea of Hickory, NC, June 15, 2010:

Dear Ms. Setzer,

I am a Weaver descendant, and have been doing much research on the line. I appreciate all your work on the Hahn line and website, but wish to correct some dates and information concerning the Jacob who is listed as Conrad Weaver and Elizabetha Margaretha Hahn's son. There has been misinformation about this Jacob, and the census and cemetery records prove what I had suspected. This subject has kept me confused for years until I viewed the documents myself and put the pieces together. . .

Recently I found on the Catawba County 1850 census, two Weavers listed, one as Jacob, one as John J (my great-great-grandfather). The one (Jacob) is married to Christina; the other married to Fannie Fisher, my great-great-grandmother. They are not the same person, as is often listed on genealogy forums, nor was JJ married to Christina. I have been copying pages from census books at Hickory library, as well as church cemetery records and other documentation. I have also visited the gravesites and have taken photos.

The Jacob who is married to Christina (Yoder?) is listed on the 1850 Catawba County census, and his age would have made his year of birth about 1794. Sophie, presumably a daughter, is listed as well. He is often listed as Conrad's son.

John Jacob, my ancestor, is listed on the same census, and his age makes his year of birth about 1808. This matches the cemetery records at Zion, where he and his wife Fannie (Fisher), also on the census, are buried.

Next, the Absalom Weaver listed as Conrad Weaver's son should have a year of birth as 1802, according to the census and the cemetery records. He is 48 on the 1850 census, and Zion's records have is DOB as 21 June 1802.

There is also a John C Weaver listed as Conrad Weaver's son, who is on the census with "Eliza" - short for Elizabeth? - also buried at Zion, with a YOB as 1796.

These are just some of the corrections I have run across. I am still actively researching my line, as the Jacob Weavers are numerous and most of them here are related. Not easy to verify information without a lot of digging. . .

I have many old letters from the 1880's relating to some of the people in the 1831 Jacob Weaver will, and have been trying to verify just who is John Jacob's father, Conrad or Jacob Jr.? The confusion with the Hahn information had me stumped for awhile, but now I feel I'm getting back on track..

I would be happy to share other information if you desire. Since I now live in NC it is easier to visit local cemeteries and churches, as well as the library's wonderful Genealogy Room

Sincerely,

Rosemary H. BuShea

Hickory, NC
