Mary E. (Mattocks) Berrier

Mary E. Mattocks is at home with her parents in the 1860 & 1870 IA Censuses. In 1880 she is no longer with her parents, presumably because she has married.

John Chamberlin has pointed out that "Ruby Burrier", a girl living with Prudence (Berrier) Mattocks in 1895 & 1900, is likely Prudence's granddaughter, though the Census entry does not spell this out. In 1885, 1 year old Ruby is living with her parents John & Mary Burrier, which , if John Chamberlin is right, would mean that Mary Burrier was Prudence's daughter. Locating Ruby's brothers John & Charles Burrier in the 1925 IA Census confirmed this: their parents' names were John H. Burrier and Mary Mattock(s) b. PA.

The similarity of "Burrier" and "Berrier" makes one wonder if John H. Burrier & Mary E. Mattocks might have been distant cousins. However, John gives his birthplace (and that of his parents) as Kentucky. There is no known connection between any of the Kentucky Burriers and the Pennsylvania Berriers, though it cannot be absolutely ruled out.
