The family of John Berrier Jr. is found in the 1850 Crawford Co. PA Census next to his parents and older brother James. The family subsequently moved to Defiance Co. OH (where they lived for about 30 years), finally settling in Blackford Co. IN, where John & his wife Eliza (Mattox) Berrier died. In the 1880 Census John gives his parents' birthplaces as PA/PA, but in 1900 he reports them as Germany/Ireland.

A researcher in Blackford Co. IN reports that John Berrier, age 84, is mentioned in the "Hartford City Telegraph", a weekly paper. Apparently "he tripped over a gas pipe at the home of his son Jesse and broke his wrist. This happened on or about Jan. 4, 1899." Note: "Jesse" in this account is probably Josiah.

The Blackford Co. Health Dep't. (Book No. 1899 p. 0) reports John Berrier, age 86, died due to "Senility & Dementia" at Hartford City on 22-Dec-1902. Physician: R.L. Truitt. The record lists John's occupation as "Retired", his father as "John Berrier" (b. PA) and mother "Not known" (b. PA). Burial Hartford City 12/24/02, Funeral director W.H. Bell.
