The 1850 Census for John & Mary Ann Berrier lists Charlotte Berrier among their children. Lauri Hillberg reports that Allamakee Co. marriage records (LDS Film 1479482) show the marriage of Charlotte Berrier to Josiah Gilman on March 2, 1859. (Josiah was a widower with several children by his previous wife.) In the 1880 Census Charlotte Gilman lists her birthplace as PA, her father's birthplace as Württemberg, and her mother's as Ireland. These facts and the proximity of Josiah and Charlotte to John Berrier and his sons James and Alexander in Allamakee Co. IA in 1860 (see Census below) make it certain that Charlotte Gilman is a daughter of John & Mary Ann Berrier.
