William Bostick

• Biography*: William Bostick was born about 1738 in Goochland Co, VA, and died intestate in 1794/5 in either Greene or Oglethorpe Co, GA. He married Agatha, maiden name not known. After the death of William Agatha married James Cone on 25 Aug 1796 in Oglethorpe County, GA. Their marriage taking place in Oglethorpe County would indicate that this is the county wehere William died. After William and Agatha had lived in Georgia for about five years (1765 through 1770) they moved to Surry County, NC. While there they disposed of all their holdings there and in Pittsylvania Co, VA. This would be about the same time William's mother was releasing her rights to land in Pittsylvania County. They may have returned to this area together. William was in Surry County, NC by 1771, as he was listed on the tax list there that year. He sold 404 acres of land in Pittsylvania County, VA to John Cargile in 1775. This was the same land that had been granted to his father, John (Deed Bk. 4, p. 255). William had obtained two land grants in NC by 1784. Eventually William and Agatha sold all their properties in VA and NC. In December 1785, William and Agatha had obtained land in York County, SC. His son Floyd Bostick also acquired land in York County (Deed Bk A, pp. 175,255). Another son, William Jr., and his wife Ann were also in York County. In March 1788, William and Ann sold their land to John Brown (Deed Bk B, p. 71) and moved to Spartanburg County, SC. About 1825 William Jr. moved to Franklin County, TN. About 1791, William Sr. and Agatha returned to Richmond County, GA, where he was granted 200 acres of land. In 1792 William witnessed a deed for his brother Littleberry Bostick. Most of the information in this report is from Raymond Bostick of San Antonio, TX, and from "Copeland, Bostick, Patton and Allied Families" by Virginia Copeland Jantz of Waco, TX. Raymond Bostick is a descendant of William and Agatha Bostick.
