From: Lcd5kids@aol.com Date: Sat, 20 Nov 2004 22:07:48 EST Subject: Re: Lesher history To: mlesher2004@yahoo.com Michael, Thank you for writing me. I'm glad you got the pictures.... The Jeremiah Lesher that you have listed, nephew of Casper II, wrote a diary in 1871 when he farmed at the age of 25 still with his parents around Newburg, PA . A granddaughter of John Lesher (Phillip Sheridan Lesher's brother) gave me a typewritten copy of the diary... Later, Lynn -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Lcd5kids@aol.com Date: Tue, 7 Dec 2004 10:16:01 EST Subject: Jeremiah Lesher's diary To: mlesher2004@yahoo.com Michael, I am planning to mail you a copy of the diary today. When I first received it, I tried to type it on the computer. I only did through January. I haven't had time to finish, but thought I could e-mail you what I had put on computer. The person who typed it from his original purposely left out punctuation and capitalization as she found it, so I didn't want you to think I am that ignorant. Ha. After all, I am homeschooling my kids and I have a Bachelor's Degree. I want to also tell you that there are some days that he went to a "flitting" and I think the typist couldn't read his handwriting because she spells it differently each time. I had a tough time even trying to figure out what he was talking about. Then I happened to read an autobiography of Mrs. Menninger whose sons founded the Menninger Institute in Topeka, KS. She was raised close to where Jeremiah Lesher lived. She happened to mention going to a "flitting" and thankfully she explained that it was a time when the community got together and all helped one family move. Then they would have a big dinner afterward to thank everyone. If you already knew that, then I apologize. I just thought it was so interesting. So look for an envelope in the coming days. Mail may be slower because of the holidays. This can be my Christmas present to you and your brother from your cousin, Lynn. Have a good day. Just a reminder that Jeremiah was a nephew to our gg grandfather Casper. (Is Casper your ggg grandpa?) He even mentions Uncle Casper in the diary. Enjoy. Your cousin, Lynn --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lynn, I have taken the typed copy described above, scanned and Optical Character Recognized (OCR) the document. Then I did a basic spell check for obvious typing mistakes, left the grammer intact and added punctuation. The results of that work follows. On December 29th, 2005 my brother, Mark Lesher and myself visited the property on Newburg, PA where Father David, Mother Elizabeth and son Jeremiah Lesher lived with their siblings. On the property on a hill in the middle of a corn field are the graves of: Casper Lesher d. 18 SEP 1834, Grand Father Elizabeth (Hummer) Lesher, ABT 10 MAY 1859, Grand Mother David Lesher, d. 3 MAY 1857, Father Barbara Lesher d. 26 MAR 1834, Grand Mother Solomon Whissler, d. 1842, Unknown Relationship R.
