The changing of spelling seems to have changed in the life of Jean Baptist LeMoyne (1751-1807), whose children spelt it LeMoine. The spelling of the word moyne (meaning monk) has also evolved into the moine spelling. (As did Roy to Roi, Moy to Moi ...) Some sons of Benjamin Henri LeMoine spell it LeMoyne. Some older generations dropped the LeMoyne portion of the name and used only des Pins. The death registry of Ren Alexandre referred to him as le Moine, although the text still has Old French spellings (moy instead of moi). The book Memoires d'outre-tombe states that in the 16th and 17th century the name was found in Normandy, France to be written as ; Le Moine, Lemoine and Le Moyne.
