Jean LeMoyne was born in Pitres parish, not far from Rouen (in Normandy, about 125 km north west of Paris).
Edith White's book states :
"Legible tombstones don't reveal the LeMoyne name. In 1881 Sir James McPherson LeMoine of Quebec, travelled to France expressively to obtain information about his ancestry, but found little information of value. Most notarial and parish records were destroyed during the Reign of Terror. "Jean LeMoyne came to Canada with the coat of arms of the House of the Counts of Normandy, itself a proof to a right to them." One of the forebears of the House of the Counts of Normandy was Jean de Salagne, dit le Grand who came form Spain in 1499. A descendent of the House of des Pins, Spain, the head of which was one of the nine Barons of Catalogne. His son Jacques LeMoyne was the founder of the family in France. "
I have not found a French reference to the Counts of Normandy, there was a Duc of Normandie but this is not the same coat of arms
