Mrs. Reid Lefevers Charged With Murder

Mrs. Reid Lefevers, charged with the murder of her husband with a baseball bat, was arraigned Monday in the Bell County Court. The hearing was waved to the grand jury which meets in October. She made a $5000.00 bond. Mr. Hubert Collett and "Cotton" Partin signed the bond.
Reid Lefevers, 36, died about 11 p.m. Thursday from head injuries he suffered Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Lefevers was arrested Friday morning and placed in jail without bond.
The woman admitted to Bell County Sheriff Harry Ball that she struck her husband with the bat because he was "drinking" and provoking her and a relative's children.
A Pineville surgeon said Lefevers was struck twice - once on the left side of the head and again on the forehead. He said Lefevers died shortly after surgery which was performed to relieve pressure on the brain. He added Lefevers suffered a hemorrhage.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Esther Mae Lefevers, mother, Mrs. Jessie Lefevers, one son, Wallace Reid Lefevers of Indiana.
Rev. Charles Jones officiated at the funeral services held at the Newtown Baptist Church Sunday June 10, 1962 at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers were cousins of Mr. Lefevers. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Pineville with the Durham Funeral Home in charge.
