The following message will hopefully clear up where our Watkins DNA Project now stands.    Lee Preston

Testing has proliferated to the point I can no longer personally keep DNA records for all the Watkins in the world!  

The DNA tests and records formerly available thru Relative Genetics are now available at Ancestry.com, whose website is the place to go if you want to test your Watkins Y-DNA.    Go to   www.DNA.Ancestry.com    and follow the instructions there.   At the top on the right, you can order a DNA test.   Once you receive your test results, they will hopefully give you info on how to use their website to store and view your DNA results.   If you request your results to be added to the Watkins DNA group, you can compare your DNA with other Watkins men tested. 

The Ancestry.com website is very complex (to me), but undoubtedly more than adequate for most DNA purposes.   Each person is "on-their-own."   I am not able to continue interpreting it, etc.

In addition to Ancestry.com, www.FamilyTreeDNA.com is a major competitor and also has some Watkins Y-DNA results, which can be accessed by anyone at random.   Their DNA results can also be printed out, which I have not yet learned how to do on Ancestry.com (if it can be done on their website).

A further comparison vehicle for Y-DNA matching is FamilyTreeDNA's separate website, www.ysearch.org  where one can enter Y-DNA values and the site will show any matches and close matches to those values.

My Watkins DNA page below is not current.  There are many changes and updates which have not been made, and no promises on that, either................                      Lee Preston

The following recalibrations HAVE NOT YET been made to the Watkins DNA results in my own table below on this website, but they have been made by the lab on their website, as shown above.   Markers DYS442, DYS452, DYS463, GATAA10, and GATAH4 have been recalibrated as of August 1, 2007.   A recalibration of DYS441 was also perfomed on August 23, 2007.
    
Test results shown were made by Relative Genetics, SLC, Utah, unless otherwise indicated.  
FamilyTreeDNA loci are shown in pink.
      
Some of the cells may not be colorized, and some may actually be the wrong color.   Go by the numerical value shown, regardless of color.

The count of 43-Loci excludes DYS 19B, DYS 464E & DYS 464F (above), as those three Loci are extremely rare in human inheritance.

Please note that for DYS389ii there may be different loci value numbers that are the same color, and therefore are considered a match. That is, if they are the same color, they are a match, even tho the loci values differ.  This is due to a certain attribute of DYS389ii, which as I understand from Relative Genetics' explanation, means, for example, that if Person #2 with values of 14, 30, subtracts his DYS389i from 389ii and gets the same result (16) as Person #1 with values of 12, 28, the result is only 1 non-matched locus rather than 2 non-matched loci.
