Abner Watkins
b. 1808

Census records of his perceived male line descendants for the Watkins DNA Project

    Abner Watkins, b. 1808 in South Carolina, long believed by me to be the son of Henry (d.p.1870) and Hannah Watkins of Pickens/Oconee Counties, South Carolina, is fully documented thru the following census records as the ancestor of Harold Lee Watkins of Eufaula, Oklahoma.   Harold completed the Watkins Y-DNA testing in December 2004, and matched my DNA results 100% on all 43 loci values tested.   With his combination DNA perfect match and the paper documentation trail of census records that cannot coherently be challenged, it is entirely consistent that Abner is the son of Henry & Hannah, and the grandson of Joseph (d.ca.1829) & Fanny, all of South Carolina.
Families of all 4 of Henry & Hannah's posited sons who have living male descendants (Heskett, Abner, Henry, Jr., Joseph) were living in Gilmer County, Georgia, in the 1880 census. Abner (age 74) & Henry, Jr. (age 68), were at Cherrylog, ED 108, pages 605 & 608. "Hess" (Heskett, Jr. (age 50), son of Heskett, Sr.) and my great-grandfather James T. Watkins (age 35, son of Joseph) were both in Leaches, Gilmer County, Georgia, ED 106, pages 573 & 572.    Hess and James T. were living 18 houses of each other.
    On the Watkins DNA project website, test results for known descendants of all 4 of the above men (Heskett, Abner, Henry, Jr., Joseph) match 100% on all shared tested loci.   Their results also match 100% with descendants of Thomas & Margaret Edwards Watkins, further leading back to Joseph (d.ca.1829) & Fanny Watkins as the prime Most Recent Common Ancestor candidate of this Watkins group with100% matching Y-DNA.
    Proof of Harold's descent from Abner (b.1808) is confirmed in the following census records --
Harold Lee Watkins' father was Odie/Otie Lee Watkins.
Odie/Otie Lee is proven as the son of Enoch Wesley in the 1920 & 1910 censuses of McIntosh/Oklahoma, and 1900 census of Indian Territory, Cherokee Nation..
Enoch Wesley is proven as the son of George W. in the 1880 census of Gilmer/GA & 1870 Fannin/GA.
George W. is proven as the son of Abner in the 1850 census of Gilmer/GA, and the 1900 census of Boardtown/Gilmer/GA, where Nancy is shown age 97, listed as his Mother.
Abner 1808 fits the age of the male child in 1820 census of Pendleton/SC -- Henry Watkins, page 191.
Henry Watkins was named in the Will of Joseph Watkins, Sr., believed to be from Surry or Stokes/NC.
Joseph Watkins, Sr., Will probated 21 Aug 1829, Pendleton/SC, Roll 737, Microfilm V22-4 SC.
