Katherine's parents have been hard to trace. There is a Franks family which was an Indian trader, based out of Philadelphia. There was a Franks marriage in Philadelphia between David Franks and Margaret Evans in 1743 in Philadelphia. They had at least two children: Abigail born 1744 and Rebecca born 1760. It would be a wild guess to say that Katherine might have been one of their daughters also.

bulletAlfred Nevin FRITCHEY(3100) (3101)(3102) was born on 25 May 1843. He died on 6 Feb 1895. Alfred N. Fritchey Shot Himself.-Through the kindness of W. G. Tindal, we have access to a copy of the Lancaster, Pa., Examiner of the 9th instant, containing an account of the suicide of Alfred N. Fritchey. The act was committed on the 6th instant. Temporary insanity induced by a severe attack of grip is the only cause that can be assigned. He was in the employ of Phares Fry of Lancaster as a travelling salesman. He had no financial troubles and possessed a loving and devoted family. Mr. John A. Fouts of this city, who perhaps knew Mr. Fritchey better than he was known by any one else in Osborne, has this to say concerning him: The deceased came to Osborne county with a colony which founded the city. He took a homestead southeast of town and lived on it for a few years. He then sold out, moved into town and engaged in the mercantile business. He was generally known throughout the county at that time. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the A.O.U.W. of Osborne. He served for a time on the city council. His health failing him, he closed out his business here and moved back to Lancaster. For about ten years he has been traveling for one or more wholesale houses. A. N. Fritchey was an honorably discharged soldier from the First Maryland regiment of cavalry. After serving his country more than three years, nine months of which he put in that Southern hell of Andersonville, he joined O. M. Mitchell Post, G.A.R. at Osborne in September, 1882. (A.N. Fritchey was a cousin of Frank Leebrick) -- February 14, 1895 "Osborne County Farmer" Note: Alfred's name does NOT appear in the prisoner database maintianed by the National Park Service. Alfred enlisted in the Union army when but seventeen years of age, being assigned to Company C, under Col, Cole, in the Maryland Cavalry. He was taken prisoner in 1862, and was confined several months in Libby prison, and on Belle Isle, and after his exchange rejoined his command. On January 1, 1864, he was again taken prisoner, this time being confined in the prison pen of Georgia, known to the whole world as Andersonville stockade. His comrades in the same company said of him, after his death, that he was not only a born soldier, but a most intelligent and companionable comrade.
--Biographical Annals...

Alfred was also a member of the Pennsylvania Colony which established the city of Osborne, Kansas in 1871. The April 13, 1871 "Lancaster Express" includes Alfred's name in the list of folks from the city of Lancaster who left the week prior to settle in Kansas. --A History of the 1871 Pennsylvania Colony....

It seems that Alfred may have attempted to start a town of his own, which was known as Fritchey Town. A letter dated December 6, 1972 (sic) from H.C. Bull, Public Judge, to the Honorable Amos Cutter, Register of Land Office of Concordia, Kansas starts out as follows: "A.N. Fritchey, Esq, President of Fritchey Town Site Co. made application on this day for the proper execution of the Declaration papers for the withdrawal from sale of the following described lands, vis. the SE 1/4 of Section 26 and the SW 1/4 of section 25, Township No. 7 South, Range No 12 west of the principal meredian in accordance with the terms of the Act of Congress providing for the location of Town Sites from public lands....." Mildred Minear's book of "Original Land Owners of Osborne County" shows that Alfred had homesteaded the SE 1/4 and the NE 1/4 of Section 26.
