He was a cooper by trade, and at the time his daughter Margaret was born resided in Harrisburg, then but a village. The house in which he lived was a one-and-a-half-story log house, weather-boarded, which stood on the Walnut street side of the Square now occupied by the United States post office building. From here, Mr. Cassell moved to what is now South Hanover township, in the vicinity of Beaver Creek, where he engaged in farming and continued to reside there until his death, August 9th, 1841. In this year, he removed to Harrisburg and was engaged in the coal and lumber business for eleven years. After this he dealt in livestock for four years. From 1885 to 1890 he traveled through the Western States, visiting Chicago, St. Louis and other important shipping points, and bought livestock for shipping to Eastern markets. In 1890 he returned to the farm, where he now resides and which he cultivates. He is a healthy old bachelor and a Republican. Parents: Emanuel CASSELL and Hannah URICH.
