Jane Catherine "Jennie" BUDD⁽¹¹⁰⁸⁾ was born on 12 Jun 1855 in Binghamton, Broome Co, NY. She appeared on the census on 1 Aug 1870 in Washington Twp, Johnson Co, Mo.⁽¹³²²⁾ She appeared on the census on 5 Jun 1880 in Washington Twp, Johnson Co, Mo.⁽¹³²³⁾ She appeared on the census on 18 Apr 1910 in Bellville Twp, Chautauqua Co, Ks.⁽¹³²⁴⁾ She died on 19 Feb 1944 in Kirkland, Wa.⁽¹³²⁵⁾ Cause of death was given as Broncho Pneumonia resulting from bronchitis. Informant was Ann O'Conner, of the same address as Jennie. She was buried in Kirkland (Wa) Cemetary. Christened in the Episcopal church, then joined Christian church.

This data is confirmed by her Certificate of Death obtained from the Washington State Department of Health. Usual residence was given as 610 10th Avenue, Kirkland, Washington. Jennie had lived in Kirkland 23 years at the time of her death.

Jane Catherine "Jenny" was born in Binghamton, New York in 1855. Jane married Joseph Franklin Conner and they lived in Kansas. Her husband always called her "Jenny". She was widowed (at 56) in 1911. At that time she went to Washington state to live near her two grown sons and two daughters. The oldest son (my grandfather) remained in Kansas. In her late eighties, the Washington relatives decided to drive to Kansas to see their Kansas family, but felt she was too old to make the long trip. As soon as they had driven out of sight, she packed her bag, called a taxi, and caught the next train to Kansas. She got there before the rest and was there to greet them when they arrived! Jennie's recipe for Banbury Tarts has been passed down the generations, and goes like this: Chop 1 cup raisins; add 1/2 cup currents, 1 cup sugar, 2 Tablespoons cracker meal, juice and zest of 1 lemon (2 Tablespoons lemon juice and zest may be substituted), 1 beaten egg. Chopped pecans can be added as a variation. May be made ahead and stored in refrigerator. Be sure to stir well before using on baking day. Roll rich pie crust very thin, cut in 4" circles. Put filling on one side. Fold over, sealing by dampening one side. Fork print edges and make a fan-like design. Rather looks like a Bethleham star. Top must be pricked to release steam as filling swells. Bake at 375 degrees, 17-19 minutes. Springle top before baking with granulated sugar and place on lightly greased baking sheet. Should be pale brown. (Any rich pie crust recipe works well). Parents: John BUDD and Mary DOVASTON.

He was married to Mary DOVASTON on 1 Mar 1854 in Oswestry, Shropshire (Salop), England.⁽¹³²⁹⁾ Marriage Certificate says that John was of "full" age, was a bachelor working as a gardener, that his residece at the time of marriage was Daywall, that his father's name was William Budd, and that his father was a policeman. Certificate says that Mary was of "full" age, was a spinster, and that her residence was also Daywall, that her father's name was William Dovaston and that his occupation was Tailor. They were married in the Parish Church according to the rites and ceremonies of the Established church by Wm. Waltham Ross (Rector). Witnesses were Frederick Galloway and Elizabeth Lestor. Marriage certificate was obtained from A&H Associates, 29 bunning Way, Islington, London N7 9UP, from leads provided by the freebmd project.
