Mr. Wallace was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Charles Leebrick, when stricken with her last illness about a month ago. Her condition grew steadily worse and the past week the end, which came this morning, was quite apparent. Mrs Wallace went to California in October, 1909, having expressed a desire to visit her two daughters, Mrs. Elmira Leebrick and Mrs. Elizabeth Haug, who reside at Long Beach in that state. Before she left, Mrs. Wallace remarked to her friends that she would never return to Rochester alive, and made arrangements to have her body returned to Rochester for her last resting place, to be laid beside her husband and children. She was a devoted wife and mother, and her home was always open to those in affliction.

On Feb 8, a note in the Rochester (Fulton Co, IN) Sentinel stated : The body of Mrs. Robert Wallace, Sr., who died recently in California, arrived over the Erie this afternoon, and was taken to the home of R. C. Wallace, wherer funeral services will be held at 2 pm tomorrow, in charge of Rev. Switzer of Hammond and Rev. Stewart of the Presbyterian church of this city. Mrs. Leebrick arrived from California to attend the funeral.

On Feb 9, a note in the Rochester Sentinel stated: Mr. and Mrs. George C. Miller of Peru, attended the funeral of Mr.s Robert Wallace, Sr. in this city this afternoon. Parents: Jacob SHAFER and Mary.

She was married to Robert WALLACE Sr. on 17 Oct 1848 or 17 Dec 1848 in Fulton Co, Ind.⁽³⁵⁹⁾⁽⁷⁹⁹⁵⁾ It is possible that Robert was married prior to marrying Elmira. Regarding his wife, Elmira Shafer, the following was said: When Robert C. Wallace of this city was 3 years old and his brother William Wallace, now of Marion, was 3 weeks old, Mrs. Wallace gave a home and cared for them as her own. Children were: Mary C WALLACE, Elizabeth M WALLACE, John J WALLACE, Elmira (Ella) WALLACE, Vida J WALLACE.
