Johannes OEHRLY⁽⁷⁴¹⁸⁾ was born on 9 Jan 1724 in Wurtemburg, Germany. He died on 19 Sep 1796 in Dauphin Co, PA. A native of Jesingen, in the kingdom of Wurtemberg, Germany. Emigrated to America in 1750, arriving at Philadelphia, where he took the oath of allegiance to English rule on the 24th of August of that year. He was a carpenter by trade and at first stopped at Reading, probably for employment, but he subsequently secured the title to a large tract of land in then Derry township, Lancaster Co., called "Betimes" on which he resided until his death.

John Sr's name appears in the 1880 and 1890 "Great Register" of Mendocino Co, Cal. In the 1880 list, he is assigned No. 24, and his residence is given as Anderson. In the 1890 "Great Register", he is assigned No. 45, and his residence is given as Yorkville.

From the 1892 Great Register, comes this physical description. 64 years old, 5'8" tall, light complexion, blue eyes, light hair, no marks or scars, birthplace, Md, residence, Yorkville.

Charlton in this city, where he had been visiting for several weeks. The funeral will be held today (7 Oct 1932) at the Odd Fellows hall with Rev. Bonner of the Methodist church preaching the funeral sermon.
The deceased was a native of Missouri and was born September 11, 1862. He crossed the plains with his parents in a covered wagon and the family settled in Sonoma county, where he resided for over 30 years.
He leaves the following sisters and brothers to mourne his loss. Mrs. Minnie Charlton, Mrs. Susie thomson, of Ukiah, Byron Ogle, or Ornbaun; E. TG. Ogle, of Berkeley;' W.G. Ogle, of Las Vegas.

Was of the Mennonite faith, and a weaver of linen. According to Pennypacker, "It may be fairly claimed for Abraham op den Graeff that he was the most skilled of these artisians, doing even more than his part to have the town merit its motto of "Vinum Linum et Textrinum" since on the 17th of 9th month, 1686, his petition was presented to the Provincial Council, "for ye Govr's promise to him should make the first and finest pece of linnen Cloath,etc."

According to Pennypacker, page 144, "On the 18th day of April, 1688, Gerhard Hendricks, Dirck Op den Graeff, Francis Daniel Pastorius and Abraham Op den Graeff sent to the Friend's meeting the first public protest ever made on this continent against the holding of slaves. A little rill there started which further on became an immense torrent, and whenever hereafter men trace analytically the causes which led to Gettysburg and Appomattox they will begin with the tender consciences of the linen weavers and husbandmen of Germantown." The full text of the protest then follows.

Abraham served with the first group of committe-men of Germantown, appointed by William Penn.

Per Bosley, Abraham arrived in America 13 Oct 1683 with his brothers and sister. On 11 Jun 1683, the brothers bought 2000 acres in Pa, a part of which was around Germantown, and the remaining along the Perkiomen River. Abraham sighed in 1688 the protest against slavery. He was a Burgess of Germantown, and a member of the Pennsylvania Assembly. He was immortalized by Whittier in his poem "The Pennsylvania Pilgrim".
