     Henry Churchill Sloan was born on 21 September 1873 in Lebanon, Wilson Co., Tennessee.¹ He married Effie Carson Holloway, daughter of Joseph Newton Holloway and Nancy Elizabeth Tennessee Clemmons, on 2 January 1898 in Wilson Co., Tennessee.¹ Henry died on 5 April 1947 in Lebanon, Wilson Co., Tennessee, at age 73.¹ He was interred in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, Wilson Co., Tennessee.¹
     

     Henry lived his early years in Nashville. After his father was injured working for the railroad, the family moved back to Lebanon. As a school boy he worked for his uncle B. J. Dillard in his jewelry store. After his uncle's death, we was in business with his cousin, Ben. T. Dillard. In 1925, Henry formed a partnership with Haywood Watson. In 1928, he opened his own business as a jeweler and watch maker. At the time of his retirement in 1946, he had worked in Lebanon for 62 years, "longer than any other person living in Lebanon." According to his obituary, Henry Sloan was known for his engraving skill. He had studied watchmaking and engraving in Cincinnati, Ohio. Besides business, he was a member of the County Court and active in the Knights of Pythias.

     James Barnard Sloan was born on 12 November 1801 in Hartford Co., Connecticut.^1,2 He was baptized on 4 July 1802.³ He married Mary Anne ?.² James died on 20 May 1849 in Hartford Co., Connecticut, at age 47.²

     John Henry Sloan was born on 19 June 1804 in Hartford Co., Connecticut.^1,2 He was baptized on 3 November 1805.³ He married Angeline Elizabeth Jessup, daughter of Joseph Jessup and Elizabeth Town, on 19 September 1829 in Seventh Presbyterian Church, New York, New York.⁴ John died on 2 September 1890 in Donelson, Davidson Co., Tennessee, at age 86.⁵ He was interred in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, Davidson Co., Tennessee.⁶
     

     Families of Early Hartford indicates that John married Rebecca Bowles in 1828. Other sources indicate that he married Angeline Elizabeth Jessup in September 1829. Possibly Rebecca was a first wife and died shortly after the marriage.

     John Henry Sloan and his family moved to Nashville in 1841 where he ran the Leviathan Livery Stable in downtown Nashville in the 1850s.

     His house was "rolled back" to make room for a movie house they build on the original site. The house later burned.⁷

     He was employed as a blacksmith and later as a farmer.⁶

     In the Census of 1850, enumerated 18 October 1850, John Henry Sloan was listed as a head of household in Davidson Co., Tennessee. He was listed at age 46, occupation as a book binder with property of 13,000, born in Connecticut.. Also enumerated in the household: Angeline Elizabeth Sloan, John Henry Sloan Jr., Mary A. Sloan, Charles M. Sloan, Richard Bedford Sloan and Amanda Sloan.²

     John Henry Sloan Jr. was born on 23 November 1834 in New York.^1,2 John died on 24 February 1860 at age 25.¹

     Mary A. Sloan was born in 1837 in New York.^1,2 She married Unknown Dortch.³ Mary died in 1874.¹

     Rebecca Sloan was born on 12 November 1794 in Hartford Co., Connecticut.^1,2 She was baptized on 14 June 1795.³ She married Henry W. Wilcox on 3 March 1824.^2,3

     Richard Bedford Sloan was born on 9 May 1846 in Nashville, Davidson Co., Tennessee.^1,2 He married Sallie Allen Dillard on 2 January 1872 in Lebanon, Wilson Co., Tennessee.¹ Richard died on 10 February 1916 in Lebanon, Wilson Co., Tennessee, at age 69.¹ He was interred in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, Wilson Co., Tennessee.¹
     

     Richard was employed in railroad construction and as a carpenter.¹

     Richard Bedford Sloan was listed at age 6, born in Tennessee, as a member of the household of John Henry Sloan in Davidson Co., Tennessee, in the Census of 1850, enumerated 18 October 1850.²

     Thomas William Sloan was born on 6 March 1799 in Hartford Co., Connecticut.^1,2 He married Mary Hayden on 28 April 1822.²
     

     Thomas probably moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts in the 1830s.

     Thomas Sloan [Jr.] was born in 1765 in Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut.¹ He was baptized on 8 September 1765.² He married Hannah Barnard on 4 June 1792 in Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut.^3,1 Thomas died on 17 January 1828 in Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut.¹

     Amye Smith was born on 16 August 1668 in Boxford, Essex Co., Massachusetts.¹ She married Joseph Towne, son of Edmund Towne and Mary Browning, on 10 August 1687 in Topsfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts.^1,2 Amye died on 22 February 1756 in Topsfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts, at age 87.¹ She was buried on 25 February 1756 in Topsfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts.¹
