     Eliza J. Stansbury was listed at age 29, born in Missouri, as a member of the household of Samuel Stansbury in Franklin, Newton Co., Missouri, in the Census of 1870, enumerated 14 July 1870.³

     Louisa J. Stansbury was listed as wife at age 41, born in Missouri, in the household of Samuel Stansbury in Franklin, Newton Co., Missouri, in the Census of 1880 enumerated 7 June 1880.²

     Tobias Starnborough was born circa 1652 in Holland.^1,2 He married Sarah Raven, daughter of Luke Raven and Elizabeth Hughes, circa 1677 in Baltimore Co., Maryland.² Tobias died on 23 April 1708 in Baltimore Co., Maryland.² Conflicting evidence states that he died on 14 December 1709.²
     

     Tobias was a grand jury member in Baltimore County, Maryland, March Court from 1683 to 1684. In 1695, he became a "Ranger" under Captain John Oldton. The Rangers were a force maintained by the Province to range or patrol the outlying districts as protection against Indians. From this Tobias acquired a number of tracts of land. He married Sarah Raven, a member of the family for which Loch Raven was named. Loch Raven is a large lake in Maryland.³

     Dethmarus Sternberg married Cathrina Morske in 1625 in Sankt Marien Evangelisch, Dortmund, Westfalen, Preussen.¹

     Detmar Sternberg was born on 26 March 1628 in Sankt Marien Evangelisch, Dortmund, Westfalen, Preussen.^1,2 He married Catherine (Renske) ? circa 1651.^3,4,1 Detmar died after 1682.¹
     

     It has long been thought that Detmar immigrated from Holland and it has been said that he descends from William of Orange. One family tradition states that "Count Detmar Sternbert/Stansbury was the great-grandson of Prince William of the House of Orange (his grandmother was the daughter of Prince William making her a Princess)." This probably refers to William I of Orange (William the Silent) also known as "Father of the Fatherland" for organizing the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule, which after the Eighty Years War led to an independent Dutch state. William I was married four times and had at least three sons and two daughters. It must be one of the daughters that the above references.

     The family tradition goes on to state that his Stansbury ancestors were from Holland but before that they were from England. Detmar's grandfather is said to have been an English Earl who fled England to Holland during one of the religious persecutions of the Puritans and in Holland changed his name from Stansbury to Sternberg so that his last name would sound more Dutch than English. This must be who one of the daughters of William I married.


It is then said that Detmar came to America with his wife Catherine Renske and their 6 year old son, Tobias, because he was afraid his son would lose his English heritage and identity. They settled in Baltimore County, Maryland and their name eventually changed back to Stansbury.⁵ Detmar immigrated to Maryland circa 1658 with his wife, Catherine, and his son, Tobias.

     Elizabeth Stine married Henry Truax.¹

     Leonora Owings Stone married John Boyle, son of Henry J. Boyle and Cordelia Dorsey Downey.¹

     Anne E. Stoutt married James Albert Slingluff, son of Joseph Slingluff and Elizabeth Jones.¹

     Henry Swope Jr. was born on 4 March 1817 in Libertytown, Frederick Co., Maryland.¹ He married Matilda Jones, daughter of Abraham Jones [Sr.] and Charity Stansbury, on 20 May 1847 in Maryland.¹ Henry died on 3 May 1899 in Taneytown, Carroll Co., Maryland, at age 82.¹ He was buried in Central Church Cemetery, Frederick Co., Maryland.¹
