     Luke Stansbury was born on 6 March 1749/50 in Baltimore, Baltimore Co., Maryland.¹ He married first Comfort Roberts on 16 May 1788 in Caswell Co., North Carolina.² He married second Nancy Haddock, daughter of Andrew Haddock [Sr.] and Elizabeth Galaspy, on 30 January 1791 in Caswell Co., North Carolina.^3,2 Luke died on 13 October 1848 in Knox Co., Tennessee, at age 98.¹ He was interred in New Hopewell Baptist Cemetery in Kimberlin Heights, Knox Co., Tennessee.¹
     

     Luke Stansbury enlisted from Caswell Co., NC, Jan 17, 1778, and was a private in the Revolutionary War. He served under Capt. Reading Blount and Col. Robert Nebane in the North Carolina Continental Establishement.⁴ During the war he engaged is several skirmishes. He was taken prisoner at the capture of Charleston, South Carolina, and held for one year. He escaped, rejoined, and was discharged.

     Information from Bill Stansbury list an Elizabeth, Polly, Andrew, and Patsy as children of Luke also. Polly it probably the same as Mary. This needs to be verified.

     Luke Stansbury was born circa 1803 in North Carolina.^1,2,3 He married Diana Deaver Umberset on 1 June 1824 in Knox Co., Tennessee. Although many genealogies have put Deaver Umberset as the third wife of Luke Stansbury [Sr.], I do not believe this to be true. Luke [Sr.] died in 1848, his second wife, Nancy Haddock, was alive in the 1850 census of Knox Co. Tennessee and is buried next to Luke at the New Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetary. There is no indication that Luke [Sr.] would have divorced Nancy and remarried, especially as early as 1824. It is more likely than that Deaver Umberset is the wife of Luke Jr..^4,1,5
     

     In the Census of 1860, enumerated 6 June 1860, Luke Stansbury was listed as a head of household in Knox Co., Tennessee. He was listed at age 57, occupation as a farmer with no real estate value listed and personal estate value of $200, born in North Carolina. Also enumerated in the household: Diana Deaver Stansbury, David Stansbury, Manda Stansbury, Mary P. R. Stansbury and James Stansbury.²

     In the Census of 1870, enumerated 5 August 1870, Luke Stansbury was listed as a head of household in Crossville, Cumberland Co., Tennessee. He was listed at age 57, occupation as a teamster with personal property value of $300, born in North Carolina. Also enumerated in the household: Diana Deaver Stansbury, Amanda C. Stansbury and Mary P. R. Stansbury.³

     Luke died on 26 December 1735.¹
