     John Sloan was born on 27 August 1781 in Washington, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts.¹

     John E. Sloan was born circa 1905 in Robertson Co., Tennessee.¹

     John Henry Sloan was born on 19 June 1804 in Hartford Co., Connecticut.^1,2 He was baptized on 3 November 1805.³ He married Angeline Elizabeth Jessup, daughter of Joseph Jessup and Elizabeth Town, on 19 September 1829 in Seventh Presbyterian Church, New York, New York.⁴ John died on 2 September 1890 in Donelson, Davidson Co., Tennessee, at age 86.⁵ He was interred in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, Davidson Co., Tennessee.⁶
     

     Families of Early Hartford indicates that John married Rebecca Bowles in 1828. Other sources indicate that he married Angeline Elizabeth Jessup in September 1829. Possibly Rebecca was a first wife and died shortly after the marriage.

     John Henry Sloan and his family moved to Nashville in 1841 where he ran the Leviathan Livery Stable in downtown Nashville in the 1850s.

     His house was "rolled back" to make room for a movie house they build on the original site. The house later burned.⁷

     He was employed as a blacksmith and later as a farmer.⁶

     In the Census of 1850, enumerated 18 October 1850, John Henry Sloan was listed as a head of household in Davidson Co., Tennessee. He was listed at age 46, occupation as a book binder with property of 13,000, born in Connecticut.. Also enumerated in the household: Angeline Elizabeth Sloan, John Henry Sloan Jr., Mary A. Sloan, Charles M. Sloan, Richard Bedford Sloan and Amanda Sloan.²

     John Henry Sloan Jr. was born on 23 November 1834 in New York.^1,2 John died on 24 February 1860 at age 25.¹

     John K. Sloan was born on 26 October 1840 in Davidson Co., Tennessee.^1,2 He married first Elizabeth Jenkins on 21 January 1870 in Davidson Co., Tennessee.³ John K. Sloan married second Alice Bledsoe on 30 January 1876 in Davidson Co., Tennessee.³ John died in 1916 in Davidson Co., Tennessee.^3,1
