     David Kincaid was born on 7 July 1757.¹

     David Kincaid was born circa 1680 in Caen Ceade Castle near Campsie Glen in Stirlingshire, Scotland.² He married first Unknown ?.³ He married second Winnifred Tillary, daughter of Unknown Hopson, in 1729 in St. George Parish, Spotsylvania Co., Virginia.³ David died before 20 May 1779 in Augusta Co., Virginia.^3,4
     

     After the Stuart Rebellion, David left Scotland and came to America, initially to Pennsylvania and eventually to Virginia. The Kincaids were naturally attached to the Stuart cause by blood ties and clan loyalty.

     He came to Spotsylvania Co., Virginia where he took up land with George Robinson. He was an early settler of Orange Co., Virginia and later moved to Albemarle Co. Eventually he ended up in Augusta Co., Virginia where he build the first Augusta County jail.¹

     David made a will on 27 January 1779 in Washington Co., Virginia.      David's will names wife Winnifred; sons Joseph, John; grandchildren William, David, Phoebe Kinkead and David Simson. Executor, John Kinkead. Wits. David and Phoebe Kinkead, David Simson. Gives to wife Winnifred 5 cows, my young black horse, her choice of beds, furniture and pewter. The best of my large iron pots, also my house, Bible during her lifetime, then to descend to son Joseph. My plantation and plantation tools of every sort, with my cross cut saw, left to grandson David, John's son, and he is to take care of and maintain as long as he lives. My 200 acres on Cove Neck to David Simpson. To grandson, son of John, one red cow. To Hobson Kincaid, my Dun Cold and rifle gun. To David Kincaid, Joseph's son, my 200 acres of land at Hunters Ford. After my debts are paid, leave the rest to the disposal of son John, to be disposed of among himself, his children, and Elizabeth Kincaid, and my son Burrough's two children, this is my grandson David and granddaughter Phoebe. My ready money to be divided, half to Elizabeth and half to Burrough's two children, David and Phoebe Kincaid. Appoints son John to be executor.

     His will was proved on 20 May 1779.

     Edith (Elizabeth) Kincaid was born circa 1475.¹ She married Thomas Kincaid, son of Thomas Kincaid and Elizabeth Boncle, on 3 July 1506 in Linlithgow, Scotland.^2,3 Edith died between 1517 and 1526.¹

     Edith died unmarried.¹

     Elizabeth was baptized in Tinkling Spring Church "at William Wallace's", South Side Ridge, east of Jarman's (Woods) Gap in the Blue Ridge which is in Albemarle Co., Virginia, on 20 June 1743. More than likely she was an older child by the time of her Baptism because there weren't any churches formed until about 1743..¹

     Elizabeth Kincaid was born in 1776.¹

     Elizabeth Ann Kincaid was born on 3 January 1817.¹ Elizabeth died unmarried on 6 May 1842 at age 25.¹

     Fannie Bell Kincaid was born on 25 August 1856 in Sutton, Virginia.¹ Fannie died on 22 February 1862 at age 5.¹

     Frances Kincaid was born on 7 March 1822.¹ She married Michael Gillilan.¹ Frances died on 8 May 1893 at age 71.¹

     
     

     Francis inherited Kyncade lands and was constable of Edinburgh Castle. As Laird of Kyncade, he was granted, by Robert Bruce, the Kyncade coat of arms, a castle, triple-towered. The arms of Kincaid, of that Ilk: Gules, a Fesse Ermine between two Mallets in Chief, Or, and a Castle in Base. It seems the castle represents that of Edinburgh where the family were Constables for a long time.

     During the conflict between Robert the Bruce and Edward I, and his son Edward II after Edward I's death, the Castle of Edinburgh was retaken by Scottish forces under Sir Thomas Randolph, Bruce's brother-in-law. Frances had come to Sir Thomas with the information that as a young man, during his father's government of Edinburgh, he had carried on an affair with a young lady in the town, and had made use of a secret path down the almost perpendicular cliff on which the castle was build, in order to conceal his courtship from his father. He offered to lead a surprise attack by this path. On a dark night, Francis, followed by Sir Thomas and a handful of picked men, climbed the cliff, surprised the garrison, and after a bloody battle, captured the castle. Francis was knighted for this exploit, and granted the right, by the Bruce, to bear in his arms, as an honorable addition thereto, a triple-towered castle.

     Francis and his successors were also confirmed in their hereditary constable-ship of Edinburgh, which the family retained for many generations. The Kincaids were always attached the Stuart cause, and they naturally, after the accession of William & Mary to the Throne of Great Britain & Ireland, lost this office.

     The names of Francis' children are not known. One of his daughters married in 1350, Galbraith of Craigmaddie and took as her portion one-fourth of Kyncade lands. She had three daughters, no sons. One daughter married about 1375, a Hamilton, and her part of the land reverted nearly two hundred years later to Kincaid through a descendant, Sir Robert, whose daughter, Lady Margaret married James Kincaid of that Ilk.^3,4

     Garnett Kincaid was born on 6 November 1911.¹

     George Kincaid was born between 1744 and 1746.¹ He married Margaret Renick, daughter of Robert Renick, circa 1770.²
