Harr was probably born in Marion Co., West Virginia, on 8 July 1889.^1,2,3 She married Phillip VanGilder on 1 September 1915 in Marion Co., West Virginia.¹ Jocilla died on 8 March 1974 in Terra Alta, West Virginia, at age 84.¹ She was interred in Fairmont, Marion Co., West Virginia.¹

     John Harr was born on 7 July 1777 in Virginia.² He married Elizabeth Merrifield on 9 April 1800 in Monongalia Co., Virginia.² John died in February 1827 in Monongalia Co., Virginia, at age 49.²
     

     Information provided by Janet Gesas Hornick of Englewood, Colorado, in 1998, places John Harr as the son of Simon Harr and Eve Printzler. John settled in Monongalia Co., Virginia, which would later become West Virginia. Marion County History, information submitted by descendant Debra Gill Kines, states "Simon Har lived at different times in Frederick and Shenandoah Counties in Virginia, practicing his profession in each. One of his sons, John, came to Marion County in the 1780s. (Two brothers settled in Pennsylvania and Tennessee respectively.) John Harr married Elizabeth Merrifield as recorded in Reverend Fleming's Marriage Book on April 9, 1800, and built a large stone house near, then Palatine, now part of Fairmont. The house stood for one hundered and fifty years. The area between Palatine and Colfax was called Harr Town." Note: Marion County didn't come into existence until 1842. Prior to that it was Monongalia and Harrison Counties.³
