     Martha Van Buren Leonard was born on 26 July 1861 in Washington Co., Virginia.^1,2,3,4 Conflicting evidence states that Martha Van Buren Leonard was born in January 1863 in Virginia.^5,6 She married Zachariah Shaffer, son of James Shaffer and Rebecca Pitts, on 24 September 1876 in Washington Co., Virginia.^1,2 Martha died on 20 April 1943 at age 81.²
