Genealogy Room Policy

The Lawrence County Public Library Genealogy Room is open during normal library hours.  Materials in the collection are not circulated or available through Interlibrary Loan.  However, photocopiers are provided for public use.  In house copies are 15 cents each.

Non-Lawrence County residents who are unable to visit us in person may request information and copies in writing.  Please limit your requests to one query per letter.  Requests may be submitted by mail, fax, or E-Mail.  Up to five obituaries requested per letter.  Requests for research must be specific and should include dates, and when possible, source.  For example,  "Please send me a copy of James Jones's obituary from the Big Sandy News.  He died in June 1946".

Due to staff limitations, we cannot copy the entire content of files or search microfilm extensively.  If you require more in depth research and cannot visit the library, we suggest you contact someone that does genealogy research.

Request will be processed as quickly as possible and in order in which it was received.  A $5.00 Fee will be charged for all copies mailed or faxed outside of the County.  This Non-Refundable Fee covers research, postage or long distance calls and up to 15 cents a copy.
