   General Notes:

John Anthony Kaull emigrated from Germany enlisted in the Continental Line in Oct. 1779 in NYC and served as a private in Capt. Lamb's artillery. He fought in the Battles of Kings Bridge and at Yorkstown where he was wounded in the hand by a boyonette. He applied for a pension 20 Aug. 1832, at which time he was living in Providence RI.. After the war he found his way to Newport RI and bought a house on Spring St. on 3 April 1818. His occupation was a gardner. Many gardners in early Newport were from Germany. He applied for a pension 20 Aug. 1832, at which time he was living in Providence RI. He died in the town of Bristol RI at the age of 89.
The Kaull family is on record in Rhode Island as early as the Revolutionary period, while for perhaps a century the name has been identified with Newport and that vicinity. For several generations his descendants have been among the city's substantial men and women and they are allied by marriage to some of the oldest and most honored families of Newport County, including the Barker, Anthony, Burdick and Gifford families.
