CHAPTER XII

ALLIE DOLISKY HICKS

SAMUEL JETER HICKS

604B

ALLIE DOLISKY HICKS

Allie Dolisky Hicks, twelfth child of Willis Bishop Hicks but his first one by his second wife, Susan Garrick. Allie was born January 23, 1857, in Clarke County, AL. She married Telly Councel "Dock" Fendley on January 22, 1880. Dock was a brother of Archibald Lee Fendley who married Allie's sister, Barbara Elizabeth Hicks.

The wedding of Allie and Dock took place at home of her father, on the same date as her sister Barbara's wedding, so they evidently had a double wedding. The officiant was W.H. DeWitt.

The 1870 Clarke County Census lists the two Fendley boys in the home of their mother:

Telly Counsel Fendley was born in Clarke County on February 23, 1857; he died October 5, 1915 and Allie died twelve days later, on October 17th. They are buried in Bassett's Creek Cemetery, Clarke County.

Allie and Dock had eight children, all born in Clarke County.

SAMUEL JETER HICKS

Samuel Jeter Hicks, thirteenth child of Willis Bishop Hicks, but second child by his second wife, Susan Garrick Hicks, was born March 18, 1859; died May 1, 1917. Buried in Round Hill Church Cemetery, Clarke Co.

He married Miss A. M. Danzey on November 29, 1883. The wedding took place at the home of M. M. Danzey and the officiant was J. H. Fendley.

The attached marriage certificate gives her name as "A. M." so the A. probably stands for Alabama.

The 1900 Clarke County Census listed the Samuel Hicks family as follows. It was difficult to read some of the childens' names, so I had to guess at them.

The date of Bama's death is unknown, nor where she is buried but it is known that Samuel J. Hicks married again on February 25, 1912. This is recorded in Clarke County Marriage Records, and the bride's name was Annie M. Newton.

Children of Samuel J. Hicks and his first wife, Alabama M. Danzey:

Samuel Jeter Hicks lived only eleven months after the death of his daughter, Winnie. His second wife, Annie, lived many more years after his death. She is buried beside Samuel in Round Hill Cemetery and her tombstone reads: Born April 30, 1876; died May 12, 1979. If I read the dates correctly, she lived to be 103 years old!

CHAPTER XIV

EMMA DELIA HICKS

Emma Delia Hicks, 17th and last child of Willis Bishop Hicks but the sixth and last child by his second wife, Susan Garrick. Emma was born June 27, 1871; died March 13, 1970. She is buried in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery near Fulton, AL.

I was told that Emma Delia Hicks married James Braxton Sellers on September 8, 1892. One of the granddaughters says that the family is not sure if his middle name was Braxton or Bishop.

Annie Lee Sellers McHaney is a daughter of Emma and Braxton, and the Willis Bishop Hicks Family Bible is in her possession. The names and birthdates of Emma and Braxton's children are recorded in this Bible. Judy Rutledge Larrimore had graciously provided me with a zeroxed copy of the Family Record portion of this Bible.
