Discussion on which Mary Lankshear and John Margetts
and there is also
1792 birth Mary LANKSHEAR 1815 marriage Nathaniel CREW at St Mary, Lambeth
Hi Jill
I have records of three Mary Lankshear to fit with the TWO known marriages
I do not think that OMI is 100% coverage of Oxford marriages
It was done with all the best intentions and was good work but some records
do not appear to be there. I have seen frequent discussions on Oxford list
of PRs versus OMI accuracy but nothing conclusive for me.
Obviously you have not seen my posting in regard to Howard's
This is it
Yesterday I posted that John MARGETTS most likely married Mary baptised 1768
Brize Norton who was daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth LANKSHEAR - this was
because of an assignment by Anthony who researched in 1970s that she married
a Margetts whose first name was not shown.
Anthony also had a Mary born 1773 to Thomas Lankshear LANKSHEAR and Mary
HAMMERSLEY - who married at Alvescot in 1772
From Brize Norton registers I also have a Mary baptised 1779 daughter of
Robert LANKSHEAR and Susanna Shepherd.
So there records for three Mary LANKSHEAR are of age to marry in 1800 and
1801.
The Lankshear fathers mentioned are all sons of Thomas LANKSHEAR and Mary
PAXFORD and the only record for their marriage is
Archdeacon Marriage Bond Index 1746 Lankshear, Thos of Caswell &
Paxford,
Mary of Caswell.
It is also not shown in OFHS index. Several children baptised at Brize
Norton as from Thomas and Mary - with interesting spelling variations of
LANKSHEAR.
The 1801 Mary is from Caswell - as were her grandparents and there are
subsequent Clare marriages and Clare was also used as a second name.
Summary - as Anthony thought that the Mary of 1768 was the one and she is
the earliest born I am inclined to stay with her.
But of course he could have been wrong ..............

Hi Ron
Sorry, I don't know who your Mary LANKSHEAR married. Very
intriguing! The only unknown Mary in that time frame is married to a
Richard MARGETTS who lived in Stow On The Wold. He was born in 1748.
Their daughter (1788) was named Mary Osmand MARGETTS, so mother Mary might be an
OSMAND. I think Richard and his family were Baptists.
Regards,
Jill

Hi Jill
I have Mary's baptism from Brize Norton
11th March 1768 - Mary LANKISHSHEAR daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth
Her mother was born Elizabeth Sylvester
But this was first record I have seen of a marriage apart from
Anthony Lankshear who researched tree when visiting Oxford in 1970s had that
Mary was married to a "Margetts" no first name or date.
Many variations in LANKSHEAR spelling for the baptisms

Hi Ron
Well, after my MARGETTS group dug a bit deeper we found the
marriage licence for John MARGETTS and Mary LANKSHEAR, and after asking the Oxon
list, they don't appear to have married in Oxon, as it's not in the Oxon
Marriage Index. What do you think? The marriage that Howard Fuller

We have a John MARGETTS bap Brize Norton 27 Aug 1780, who is
currently hanging in limbo (no marriage, no death), but he would be 12 years
younger than Mary.
We'll let you know if we come up with anything else!
