1953 Letter from Elizabeth Lankshear (Skeggs)  to Dorothy Brown (nee Purkiss)

24.3.1953   13 Poyser St, Bethnal Green E2

 My Dear Dolly & George,

Just a line in answer to your letter. Well Dear, Mum is still in hospital they are hoping for her to come out for Easter. They don't want to have a relapse by coming out too soon. The weather has been all against her so she is much better to be there a little longer than come out and be bad again. I have not been able to go and see Mum since a week before Christmas. I'm under the Dr myself and I can't do much for myself but Gracie is coming as often as she can to clean up for me and Daisy comes when she doesn't have to work. Dear you can guess how I miss Mum and I know she misses me. Dad's cousin Gert goes in to see Mum every week. She used to help me when I was able to go and she comes to see me as often as she can so she can tell me how Mum is getting on. Well Dear, I don't know anything else I can tell you only it is B1 Ward.  PS. I'm writing this by return as I know how worried you must be. Well Dear, I will close with love to you all and hope you will all keep well.

God Bless you.  Love from Nana xxxxx]

Janette's comment - My Mum found some letters from Lily Lankshear (Dolly's mother) to my Nan and also some from Nana (Elizabeth) Lankshear, dated from the time Lily was in hospital the months leading to her death.

I didn't connect until you said your Mum (Ron's mother) was with Elizabeth when she died and now I realise who Daisy is in the letter.  Haven't found a Gert in George Purkiss family yet but as we know, 'uncle' and 'cousin' are terms not always used for relatives !! (i don't know if she was someone you knew ?) B1 Ward mentioned was Mile End hospital as stated on some of Lily's letters.
