The earliest known ancestor of this line was born in Rockingham County, Virginia on December 3, 1807.   He married Catherine Rumsey there on September 2, 1828.   John Lewis Berry, William Henry Berry and Francis Cammack Berry, their oldest sons, were all born in Rockingham County.   In 1835, John and Catherine moved to Ohio and may be found in census records in Union Township, Licking County, Ohio.   Their other children were:  Preston R., Mary A., Martha, Sarah, Josiah, Amos and Nancy E., all born in Ohio.   John Edward Berry died in 1886 and was buried in Union County, Ohio.
