The earliest known ancestor of this lineage was Hugh Berry, born about 1757 in Virginia. He is believed to have died in Greene Co., Tennessee, date unknown. His wife was Elizabeth, [surname unknown]. Their children were John Berry, Margaret Berry, Robert Berry (born 1775 in Virginia, died 1824 in Madison Co., Alabama, married Mary Susan Simmons), Jane Berry, Hugh Berry (born 1779 in Virginia, died 1856 in DeKalb Co., Alabama, married Elizabeth Fowler).
