The earliest known ancestor of this line is John Berry who died 18 August 1817 in Effingham County, Georgia. According to his tombstone at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Ebenezer, Georgia, he was in his 60th year which places his birth as circa 1758. It is unknown where John Berry was born. About 1790 in Effingham County, John Berry married Maria (Reiser) Hoffman, widow of John Hoffman and daughter of Michael Reiser and Appolonia <unknown>. Maria Reiser's ancestors were part of the Salzburger migration to Georgia in the mid 1730s. John Berry's will divided his land on the Savannah River between his two sons, John Banajah Berry and Obadiah Berry. His daughters were Naomi Berry (married Jacob Metzger) and Salome Berry (married Emanuel Rahn & John Exley). Descendants of this line can be found in Georgia, Florida and Arizona.
