Obituary for ~
Homer Keith Ernst
January 1, 1929 - December 28, 2008
ERNST, Homer Keith - 79, Blockhouse. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather on
December 28, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax, after a courageous battle.
Homer, the son of the late William and Effie (Veinotte) Ernst, was born at home on the family homestead, January 1, 1929.
It was on this farm that Homer and his wife, Natalie raised their family.
Homer passed on to everyone his love for the land, the foresight to see the benefits of hard work and the joy in the telling his lifes' experiences. Homer was an avid hunter, fisherman, woodsman and all around outdoorsman. It was this connection with the outdoors
that he passed on to his sons and later his grandchildren. This was the place that Homer was most at peace and would spend countless
hours in the outdoors. To all that knew Homer, he was a sociable, kindhearted man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to his
family, friends and neighbours. His artistic talents and love of the woodworking craft will long be remembered in the countless numbers of
tool handles, whirligigs, toy boxes and doll cribs he made. Everyone will remember Homer for his endless loyalty and the empathy he gave to others, forever putting others first.
Homer worked for Nova Scotia Power Corporation and was a member of the IBEW union for 25 years.
He served in the West Nova Scotia Regiment for 11 years.
He was a confirmed member of St. James' Anglican Church, Mahone Bay and was a former member of the Blockhouse Volunteer Fire Department.
Homer is survived by his wife of 56 years, Natalie (Langille);
sons, Kevin (Pamela), Blockhouse; Douglas (Sandi), Prince George, B.C.;
Steven (Carrie), Sydney;
grandchildren, Karen, Kaila, Elizabeth, Brennan and Meaghan.
He is also survived by several siblings.
