* * * Ira Ivan Langille of Attleboro, a retired jeweler, died Wednesday at his home. He was 78.

Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, he was raised and educated in Canada. He had lived in Attleboro since 1950.

Mr. Langille served in the Army from 1952 to 1954, and was awarded the National Defense Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for service in Germany.

He worked as a jeweler at several local jewelry firms, including Jostens, Swank, L.G. Balfour and BB Greenberg in Providence prior to his retirement.

He enjoyed spending time on projects around his home and working on automobiles.

Only a few years ago, he discovered his late, biological father and learned that he had three siblings.

Mr. Langille is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lydia (Gauthier); a son, Randy I. of North Attleboro; two brothers, Gordon Cranton and Frank Cranton, both of Canada; a sister, Myrna Cranton of Canada; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Memorial Chapel of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, North Attleboro.

Burial will be in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.
